J-CultureCon is the Derby's annual exhibition and conference that focuses on education and information exchange for lovers of Japanese Culture, by lovers of Japanese Culture. J-CC offers a group of guests and helpers, including some of the best shops from around the country. Whether you are a seasoned Otaku or have never been to Japan, with two days of experience J-CC will offer the perfect learning opportunities for you. The educational focus is practical, meaning that you will leave our "hands-on" or "minds-on" classes with skills you can use. J-CC will also provide the opportunity for you to practice your new-found skills in any of our practice spaces. We would like to thank everyone who supported J-CC 2009, you all helped make the convention a success! we would also like to say a special thank you to Yuko Sekiguchi who gave us lots of help on the Japanese side of the convention and pointed us in the right direction and Helen McCarthy for taking time out of her busy schedule to do a talk. We hope to have everyone's continued support to make this years bigger and better then before. We look forward to seeing you there!
 

J-CultureCon features:

  • 1 Day of fun and events for everyone from the novice to experienced anime and manga fans, with specialized classes on various aspects of Japanese culture, lifestyle, religion and many other topics to help you become a better Otaku!

J-CultureCon is a gathering of part-time anime and manga lovers, Otaku, kit builders, figure aficionados, artiest and those just curious enough to take those first steps outside their bedroom into the world of Japan. Otaku from around the country, this is an opportunity to attend a gathering that will provide education, support self-expression, foster new friendships, and renew old acquaintances! It is our goal to encourage everyone interested in Japan and anime to unite as a community and grow as a result. Whether you are new to it all or a skilled Otaku, there will be something for you!
