Contemporary Rhythms, Traditional Cultures

This performance is a tea ceremony combined with an illustrated lecture showing aspects of the traditional cultures of yesterday juxtaposed with the contemporary rhythms found in the Japan of today. It focuses on Kyoto, the country’s cultural capital and runs for around one hour in total.

Introduction

An introductory speech outlining the composition of the performance to follow begins the presentation.

A ten minute look at the world of Japanese culture and contemporary Japan through a Powerpoint presentation of images taken by travel photographer Jeremy Hoare.

The Tea Ceremony

The main part of the event is a Tea Ceremony which will be performed by Tea Master Chizuko Kimura. This takes 30 - 40 minutes with a couple of participants from the audience taking part.

Q&A with the Audience

A ten minute Q&A with audience will conclude the performance.

Chizuko Kimura's talk will be in the Tea Room (Area D) starting 13:00.
